The Cadence
The Golf Studio — Rotation, Balance & Patience — The Cadence

Golf Studio

Golf is the slowest sport and the most honest. The ball goes where you send it, and there is no one to blame. I came to golf for the swing and stayed for the walk. Here we train the rotation, the balance, and the patience the game demands — and the body that survives 18 holes.

"Turn, don't sway."

"Smooth is fast."

"Finish facing the target."

Foundations

The Grip and Posture

30 min

We start with the only thing touching the club: the hands. Interlocking or overlapping, the grip is neutral and light. Then posture — athletic, hinged from the hips, arms hanging. Everything else is built on this.

  • Grip pressure: hold a bird.
  • Hinge from the hips, not the waist.

The Half Swing

30 min

We take the club to parallel and stop. The wrists hinge, the shoulders turn, the weight shifts. No full swing until the half is pure. The half swing reveals every flaw.

  • Toe up at halfway.
  • Weight moves to the back foot.

Putting Basics

25 min

The stroke is a pendulum, not a hit. We practice from two feet, then four, then six. The eyes stay over the ball; the hands lead the clubhead. Short putts win rounds.

  • Eyes over the ball.
  • Stroke through, not at.

Chipping

30 min

The short game saves strokes. We chip with a single club, learning the low running shot. Ball back, weight forward, hands ahead. Land it just on the green and let it run.

  • Weight on the front foot.
  • Hands lead the clubhead.

Practice

The Full Swing

45 min

We build the full swing from the half. The backswing completes, the hips start down, the arms follow. We finish high and balanced, facing the target. The finish tells the truth about the swing.

  • Start down with the hips.
  • Hold the finish for three seconds.

Iron Play

40 min

Ball-first contact. We hit down to make the ball go up. The divot is in front of the ball, not behind. We work through the bag — 7-iron, 5-iron, the long irons last.

  • Compress, don't scoop.
  • Divot past the ball.

The Driver

40 min

The driver is the only club hit on the upswing. We tee it high, ball forward, and swing up through it. The goal is not power but a repeatable launch. Accuracy beats distance.

  • Tee high, ball forward.
  • Swing up, not at.

Bunker Play

35 min

The sand shot is the only one where we don't hit the ball. We splash the sand behind it. Open the face, open the stance, accelerate through. Fear is the enemy; commitment is the fix.

  • Hit the sand, not the ball.
  • Finish with the club high.

Course Management

45 min

We play the hole in our mind before the first tee. Club selection, target lines, the safe miss. The smart shot is rarely the heroic one. We train the thinking that lowers scores.

  • Aim to the fat part of the green.
  • Take the club that fits the shot, not your ego.

Shot Shaping

50 min

We learn the draw and the fade on purpose. The ball curves with the swing path and the face. We practice both, so the curve is a choice, not an accident.

  • Path sends it, face bends it.
  • Finish the swing to shape the shot.

The Short Game

45 min

Pitching, lobbing, and the difficult in-between distances. We learn to land the ball on a spot and judge the release. The short game is where the round is saved or lost.

  • Pick a landing spot.
  • Let the loft do the work.

The Round

60 min

A simulated nine holes, playing every shot with the full routine. Pre-shot, swing, post-shot reset. We practice the mind as much as the motion. Then we walk in, and pour the coffee.

  • One shot at a time.
  • Routine under pressure is the skill.

Movement + Coffee Pairing

After the Round

A pour-over, made slow. The patience of the brew matches the patience of the round — you cannot rush either. Drink it on the walk home.
